Range

Humid lowland forest and its edges, clearings, tall secondary forest and cocoa plantations; in northern South America also dry forest, mangroves and desert scrub.

What the rufous-tailed jacamar eats

  • He catches wasps like Agelaia vicina in flight, beats them against a branch and swallows them whole – the long bill keeps the sting at a distance.

Mainly Wasps, above all Agelaia vicina

  • Also Butterflies

  • In the Cerrado, dragonflies are among his most frequent prey alongside butterflies – he catches them in flight from a perch.

    Also Dragonflies

  • From a horizontal perch he snaps up small flies in flight and carries them back to his perch.

    Also Flies

  • He also catches flying beetles in mid-air; like other jacamars he batters his prey against a branch before eating it.

    Also Beetles

Questions

Is the design printed?

No – burnt into the wood with a laser, without any paint.

Will my picture look exactly like the photos?

Almost. Grain and colour differ from piece to piece, and the design comes out a little lighter or darker depending on the wood. That is exactly what makes it one of a kind.

How do I hang it?

The hanger is already on the back – all it needs is the right spot on the wall.

When will it ship?

Ready to ship: 1–2 working days – usually the same day. The shipping costs are on the “Shipping” tab.

My favourite bird is missing – what now?

Wish for it! On the page of the wooden picture there is room for your motif wish.
